Mystery of Carey Price

Roland Melanson, a former goalie coach of the Montreal Canadiens....currently a goalie coach for the Vancouver Canucks made a statement saying that Carey Price has deteriorated as a goalie over the last few years since he left.

Melanson said that Carey Price has been all over the place the last few seasons since he left and that his goalie career is becoming destroyed. As a former goalie coach, what gives him the right to state that about a goalie who worked so hard to get us from not making the playoffs in 2012 to making the playoffs and second in the Eastern Division.

Yes, Montreal did not get passed the first round in the playoffs when the Ottawa Senators took them out in five games but was that really Carey Price's fault? He got injured and was unable to play the last period in game four and the full fifth game. As well as Carey being injured, many other key players were injured; Brian Gionta, Lars Eller, Ryan White, Alexei Emelin and Brandon Prust. So basically it was like having the Junior League...Hamilton Bulldogs playing in the NHL. So again can we really just blame one player?

The Montreal Canadiens are not taking and precautions for next season. They did not resign the former goalie coach Pierre Groulx. Many have blamed Groulx for most of the goalie problems the Habs faced. Melanson said while talking about Groulx, "He wanted to be his friend. A goalie doesn't want you to be his friend — he wants results. You're not there to be his friend."

Melanson should be careful what he says, because his comments can backfire. He was the first coach to start working with Carey Price and then he said that Carey Price is failing as a coach. But he is also working with the Vancouver Canucks the year before they went to the finals in the playoffs against the Boston Bruins. Roberto Luongo was one of the goalies he worked with. Luongo had many good saves but he was not consistent. Vancouver was up two games in hand but the series soon became pushed to game 7 and they lost. Is inconsistent goal tending coaching to blame for this loss as well?

Next season we will see the true side of Carey Price and the team as a whole. Maybe they will be unstoppable, maybe they will be a mess. It all lies on the hands of who will be left on the team...and who trains them.
